Yet it seems to me that women are the ones who adore the pop divas like Madonna and Shakira, Nelly Furtado, etc. Isn't this contributing to the problem or do I have no point here? What I'm saying is that women appear to be attracted to superficial beauty in other women.

I don't think we're attracted by it - but we are drawn to it because we want to mirror that. The reason we want to mirror it is because men seem to react to the skinny beautiful Victoria Secret models walking down the runway. And you just named singers - I adore Shakira because she can sing - not for her slamming body and killer dance moves (even though that does help). If a man showed interest in a plus-size model or actress more often (and if there were more of them) women would have more range of someone to enjoy.

This is a good question. I like it.

Now... go tell you sister to look at all the "hot" men viewed as sex symbols. Who is perpetuating that??

You are both right. Men and women have been exposed to what the media, fashion, and other media tells us is "beautiful." We all have those immages in our minds. However, only a small percent of the population, women and men, will ever "look" that way.

Studies actually show that people are attracted to personality more than looks. Obviously, putting your best foot forward in appearance is important with first impressions. After that, people will find you "sexy" and "attractive" for what is behind the looks. This is true for both men and women.

So.... the answer is yes to both. Women would like to look like "divas" and men would like to look like the "hollywood hunk," but, we are who we are.

Well..yeah. I mean MEN are actually the ones who hold women to standards that are impossible to achieve unless you're under the age of 30.
Women should look to role models who are strong intellectually and physically. Beauty fades, or it can be gone tomorrow, so there has to be some other form of strong attraction in a relationship.
Most womaen know that men marry and date their "mothers" anyway.

i think you're right, women have to change things, of course guys aren't going to tell girls to gain weight and put on more clothes.

as women we have to set a standard for sophisticated beauty, instead of being trashy and dressing like sluts.

i am so sick of women dressing in tiny little clothes that would only be appropriate size for a 10 year old.

when it comes to showing skin, less is more
