Because when everyone is getting screwed over equally, the person getting poor treatment isn't the minority or exception. When the norm is getting beat, then there isn't a need to ask "why me".
In addition, people don't like to hear whining.

They do really, you just don't hear it as much. And becuse people are beginning to realize that things don't JUST happen to them. They are beginning to see more of teh big picture that bad things happen to everyone... though you do hear more, "why now?"
