No. Not everyone thinks this way but it's a common misconception that everyone will ask you. Ha. It's completely up to you what you and your girlfriend/boyfriend wants. As long as you are both happy with the way things are then it's up to you what you do. Today it is hard to have marriage. I used to believe you needed marriage for x, x and x (whatever x is) but you don't need it. Marriage is just a piece of paper and I am tempted to believe it eventually kills your sex life.

Depending on what state you have lived in all these years, you may already be considered married. If you've acknowledged each other as husband & wife to the public in TX, you are common law married. The piece of paper does not change any thing that was happening before, right. It's a mental thing, because if you wanted things to be right the marriage would have occurred before the living together.

Marriage isn't always the next logical step for a lot of couples. Just because you aren't married, doesn't mean you can't have a long lasting meaningful relationship. People sometimes get married for the wrong reasons, that's why the divorce rate is over 50%. And not everyone is religious, so you for those who say you are sinning against god, that's your belief and you are entitled, but don't shove it down other people's throat.

Do both of you want to get married? If one or the other does not want to, you are wasting the other person's time. Be honest and let them choose whether they want to remain in a relationship that is not going anywhere. Personally, I don't see the point in being with someone "for years" if it will not ultimately lead to marriage. Then again-why buy the cow when you get the milk for free, right?

no, look at Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, they've been together over 20 years have children together are extremely happy and never been married...
Its just usually the next step in a relationship when youve been together for a long period of time, but if your not ready for marriage dont do it, marriage is hard enough with out being pressured into it..

I think that is what the bible would say.
And in your question, you say "have" to marry them? That really makes it sound like a step you are not ready for yourself. The only opinion I have against not marrying someone is if you have kids. I do not think it is fair to keep bringing kids into a relationship that you cannot commit in. That is backwards. Another thing that is hard about that, is legalities in the case of death to either partner. If you are not married, you do not stand to keep a lot of what you worked for if it is in your partner's name.

It's just how it's supposed to be. If you are having premarital sex you are sinning against God. You need to get married to make it right. If you wont get married. You are just chicken and childish. You need to grow up. There's more to life than playing house. Ugh! People get on my nerves.
