Thanks to Mr. President. Our wonderful govt. is even more greedy with that redneck bastard in office...Why can't we all have more fuel efficient vehicles, or the solar powered ones...God forbid they lose any $$$, it's the root of all evil.

Move to Europe... they'll pay you the same or LESS per hour for work, but you'll pay around $4-5 per gallon for gas. Then you can come back to the states and be grateful for what you have.

And why not ask this: What's up with car manufacturers? They are producing bigger gas guzzlers than ever. Look at the Hummer, the H2 and NOW the H3... not to mention all the SUVs put out by others. it used to be that you could find a regular gas burning car that got around 45 mpg. You're LUCKY if you can find that anymore.

And since the monopoly on using oil and gas isn't going to disappear anytime soon, don't count on a huge flux of electric cars to help you... they've been trying to get into the market for years and have been repeatedly crushed.

Nope, society will continue to get gouged and our environment will continue to be destroyed all for the sake of filling a few fat-cats' pockets.

How's THAT for fair?

It's really unfair about the rising gas prices. I'm from Stamford,CT and I pay $3.45 for regular. I work in Danbury, CT (about 45 minutes away) and the price drops dramatically to $3.06. I don't think the gov't. will raise minimum wage due to high gas prices, however we need to do something about getting our oil and gas. The war and our national debt won't help lower gas prices but my advice might be just to find the cheapest gas station and keep using it. I've found that if one gas station keeps the price about the same each week, it shouldn't change unless we have another natural disaster.

Where do you live? cause I know the northeast is really bad when it comes to gas prices.

this question reflects an even rudimentary understanding of economics

gas prices are the way they are because the free markets has dictated it so and because the political climate we live in have made that market volatile

minimum wage and people like yourself who believe that minimum wage has any real meaning are laughable

go ahead and raise the minimum wage to 58 dollars and hour, then we can all pay 79 dollars for a hamburger

minimum wage is an arbitrary number that has absolutely nothing to do with your ability to buy goods

here's my question:

why don't they teach economics is schools anymore so this type of question doesnt have to be asked?

Supply and demand. Supply is low and demand is higher than ever due to emerging economies in China and India. Supply is low for several reasons. The enviromentos don't want us to drill in ANWR or off-shore for more crude. Secondly, there has not been a refinery built in this country in 30 years and that was before the switch to re-formulated un-leaded fuel required by clean air regulations. Third, no nuclear power plants have been built to ease the demand for traditional fuels such as coal or natural gas. France gets 75% of its power from nuclear plants. Why can't we? Also, if you are in a minimum wage job, you really should consider taking a bus to work if your city has a transit system.

Just to give you an idea of what is going on in European countries. In this region of Italy the average income per month is 1200 Euro which is about 1550 dollars depending on the exchange rate. Gas here is on average 1.30 Euro a liter which equates to roughly $5 a gallon. Buy a bike or don't drive everywhere. That's what they do here.

That's ridiculous. You don't raise state regulated minimum wage based on the price of one "optional" commodity.
If the price of oranges skyrocket do we raise the minimum wage too?
Get real, you either pay the price for the product that the company sets or you find other options for your traveling.
It's not the governments job to take care of your finances.

I agree, but the U.S raises gas prices for a reason! Hurricane Katrina wiped out all of the mayor gas distributions so we need to get gas from other countries, which costs money from the government. So in order to pay for the gas from other countries,
the government makes us pay high prices. It sucks, but the government does it for a reason!

We have to pay so much because: the country buys the oil for gasoline, and right now, the price for one barrel is at a record high. So they are paying a REALLY high price for the oil. You'd think people would care that we have oil in our OWN country......
