It is up to where you are living. If you are living in non-English speaking country, try to watch some interesting movies. Watch interesting Walt Disney cartoons and classic cartoon movies. When you are interested in knowing the conversation, you will slowly get it. Then select few people to converse only in English. You can use the same type of conversation from the movies and cartoons. So that you can keep watching the same movies and cartoons until you get almost all the conversation along with the stories.

If you live in an English-Speaking country, do the same. But you have more opportunities, so you will speak good English within a year! Try to learn the pronunciation at the same time.

Read simple books or magazine like TIME, listen to English News on Radio or TV to improve your reading and speaking.

Write personal diary......keep writing even you make mistakes...no one read it of course. So make a habit of writing in English. You will see the change in your own writings.

When you have time, go back and have fun to see your own mistakes. You will be proud how much you improved !

All the best!!

So many ways......English is all over the world! Wherever you go you have plenty of chances to learn!!

Speak speak speak...type type type. Your question was very well written actually better than most on here that native language is English. Are you in America? If so just find patient ppl that will talk with you and help you with sentencing and slang. You may even want to post an local ad (colleges are a great place to post this type of ad) saying will trade lessons in your native language for help with English. That way you will meet someone interested in your language and you will work on your English!!

The fact that your committed to improving your language is impressive and you will do fine!!!

You didn't do that bad. I'm going to correct it for you, ok? Maybe this will help (and I'm not picking on you).....
My ability to speak/write English is poor. How do I improve these skills? It will affect my life in many situations so please give a valuable answer to this question. (see spelling differences too?)
Ok - what you have to do is practice, practice --and speak it as often as you can. I understood what you were trying to say. You can always try and get your point across on here (like you just did) --- ask us how to say certain sentences and if we can make out what you are trying to say, we'll help you.

hey, even i was like that

i) ok, start speaking with someone very close to you - thats coz they wont have the guts to laugh at you.
ii) read the newspaper a lot
iii) read books, keep a notebook and keep a record of all the new words that you keep learning
iv) listen to news channels and understand how to pronounce certain words (the newsreaders are experts at pronouncing stuff right)

SO, YOU"LL PERFECT IN NO TIME

take an ESL course ( English as a second language) or buy some tapes/DVDs for home courses and practice enunciation's. You can do it while you are driving in your car or at home.= on free time

If you have a chance, take an English as a second language course. Be patient, you'll pick it up day by day.

that problem can be resolved if you watch alot of english movies and do a bit of reading. Well atleast it worked for me, so it should work. All it takes is a little motivation.

READ LOTS OF BOOKS. That's how I become fluent in Spanish, even after four years of high-school instruction. Read, read, read!
