Use Magic DVD Ripper to copy the movie to your HDD it would commonly take up about 600 to 700mb but it would depend on the movie length and quality.
The transfer rate from your DVD drive is not as good as your HDD!
You may also want to make sure that your laptop has enough resources (memory and CPU power) to functionaly play a movie!
There is a program called GSPOT that will also tell you what codec you need to play a movie.
Installing an all in one codec will usaully mean using there player too!
I like the Nero Showtime for playing movies or Power DVD...they have a lot of codecs already.

It could be a million things. If your laptop is old, it could just be that the processor is clogged with dust in which case just shoot some air in there and clean it out. You could have low RAM. Your DVDs could be messed up, or your software may not be good at playing DVDs. Try giving your computer a cleanup both physically and virtually (clean up your hard drive). If your low on RAM, your movies will stutter.

What is the spec of your laptop?? Maybe you dont have enough RAM??
And are you playing from file or from DVD-drive? It may be the drive needs cleaned if playing off DVD.
Finally, you may need to update your media players with the relevant codecs.

if the movies you are talking about are from the web then it's a downloading problem that points to your internet bandwidth but if you're playing a movie locally and it stops then it seems to me a memory problem you can either add a memory or use a movie player that doesn't use as much resources like Xing

There is a problem with the CD drive, probably.Save a movie to your computer and then try playing it.If the problem recurs, then there's a problem with either your Motherboard or RAM.Take it to your technician. We can't really help.

first check to see if the disk is scratched. if so then thats the problem. Then is it isn't scratched then it may be that your lens on your dvd drive is dirty or needs to be cleaned. Other than that i have no idea.
