As an ATM maker, you don't know where your bank is going to put your machine. It could be at a street corner where a blind person can use it, or it could be at a drive through. It's pretty cheap to stick those bumps on the plastic buttons, so I bet they probably just put braille on all the ATMs they make. So chances are the bank just bought a bunch of ATMs, and all of them had braille.

As part of the Americans with disabilities act, the law requires accommodations for the blind. However, putting Braille on an ATM is virtually useless to the blind because once you swipe your card, the screen instructs you what to do next, and you must be sighted to do this. There are some talking ATM's which is a better accommodation. Granted, the blind do not drive, and is is kind of funny to see Braille on the drive through ATM's.

Maybe they don't make two different styles of ATMs. Then everyone gets an ATM that has braille no matter where it will be placed. Seems like it would be a waste of money to make two different kinds just to remove the braille on one.

Because if someone is driving a European Car drives up to the ATM in America the blind person can then use the ATM without letting the driver know their PIN!

It's merely a recognition of the TRUE status of the quality of eyesight that characterizes most people behind the wheel of an automobile these days!

I have always wanted to know that.
They are probably there because they are all made the same, some are put in the bank and others are put in drive thru.

In case the driver is blind drunk.
Seriously though, it's to allow for a blind passenger wishing to use the service.
