If it's the skill and versatility that you are talking about....then it's Steve Howe of YES.

If it's how creative and totally immersed into the psyche/soul of the band ....then it's George Harrison.

Steve is better and faster than anyone I've heard except John McLaughlin...........who, with the Mahivishnu Orchestra could send listeners into a hypnotic TRANCE with his sound.... and YES plays enough different music that he's proven himself as a rocker as well as a classical act. Have you seen Steve Howe's guitar collection !!!!???? It belongs in the Smithsonian !!!!! It is VAST and as varied as any on EARTH.

Now......as for George.......who could have replaced him??

Would The Beatles been anywhere NEAR the same without him??

The answer is burned into the history of music.

Now........if you're speaking of a guitarist with some side men attached.........it's Jimi, isn't it??

Most people agree on Eddie VanHalen.
But, Steve Vai is definately the fastest. A close contender is Joe Satriani or Randy Rhodes. Those are the best 4, what order depends on your preferance. Rock on!!
