I am aregular road user and just can't get past the fact that you have these ignorant or rather arrogant or even both cyclists on the roads with the rest of us, they are constantly getting in the way and at times its them that are the cause of traffic jams.

As road users we have certain responsibitaties for eg. we need to obey road regulations and signs(not cyclists), we need to pay road tax for use of the roads(not cyclists), we need to hae a licence(not cyclists), we need to carry insurance in case of accidents(not cyclists). Is this fair for all they are a pain in the B"£tt.

If you get hit by a cyclist and low an behold the great big dent or scratch on your car is your responsability even if he is the one at fault. I say get them off the road before they start becoming targets.

For all of you who critisize without knowing any better i actually hold a proffesional driver qualification and am trained to look out for all sorts of hazards on the roads but this still does not change my argument at all.

I agree 100%. Every spring bikers fill my sleepy little town, and they put up signs every where that say "Share the Road". We have sidewalks! Why should we have to share the road with people on bikes who wear funny clothes? My town never has traffic jams because we have such a small population, but when these fools are there, it can take forever to drive town Main Street. If I'm in a bad mood coming home from work and get stuck behind one of those idiots, I have the urge to throw something at them. They are instigators of road rage!

I am car driver, pedestrian and cyclist (not all at the same time!), therefore I pay road tax and have a driving licence. When I am cycling my cars are on my drive therefore there is one less motor vehicle on the road.
I agree some cyclists should not be on the road, but that can apply to a lot of drivers too.
The problem is that the highway includes the pedestrian areas too so the road tax/driving licence is irrelevant.
I like to cycle fairly fast 20-25 mph, this is impossible on pedestrian walkways as it is dangerous and you have to keep stopping at side turnings. As a pedestrian, I have experienced some unpleasant moments caused by pavement cyclists.
The poor cyclist has a bad deal, they should have there own road space (not walkway space) such that they are segregated both from cars and pedestrians. The Highway Code states that cycling on the pavement is not permitted, so the cyclist gets the worst deal of all road users, and cycling in the towns and suburbs is an unpleasant experience, but when you get out in the countryside, there is no choice but to share the road with everyone else.
I don't think I can answer your question, merely sympathise with your plight as well as that of the cyclist. The cyclist's lot is not a happy one and a certain amount of assertion (not agression) is necessary to survive out there.

I think a cycling test should be part of the driving test, just to give the new driver and appreciation.

As for me, I shall probably become a born again motorcyclist........

i don't know how many times i've gotten stuck behind some idiot in a car who doesn't know what that long white line is for. bike lanes. KEEP OUT OF THEM! oh and people opening car doors without checking, turning without indicating, changing lanes without checking and of course parking in the junction boxes, blocking all the other traffic. i think motorists can be a nuisance just as much as a cyclists, if not more. so save that rant until you can safely say all motorists are perfect.

Cyclist are allowed on the road for one simple reason: they were using the roads before cars existed. You could say that they have more right to be there than car drivers, as their right has been established for longer.

You seem to assume that all "road user"s are car drivers.

Pedestrians, cyclists, horse-riders, car drivers, commercial vehicle drivers, agricultural vehicle drivers, people in invalid carriages, motorcyclists are all road users (apologies to anyone I missed) and all have equal rights to be there according to the law.

There are certain roads (motorways, and some sections of dual carriageways) where slower vehicles such as bicycles and tractors are not allowed for safety resons.

It's the law that bicycles, cars, trucks, scooters, motorcycles, and even horse drawn buggies use the same road. Learn to live with it. Nuisances are poor drivers who fail to give right-a-way and operate their vehicles in a dangerous manner. If I was bicycling at 20 mph and the car in front of me is doing 15 mph does that give me the right to verbally abuse the driver? Roads are maintained from property, sales, and business tax revenue. Using your argument, no one will be allowed to drive on a road in another state since they didn't pay taxes there.

Bikes on quiet roads in towns are ok but other than that, forget it. It's technically still illegal to ride a bike on a path where there is no cycle lane which is stupid and needs to be changed. What really p*sses me off is when there is a cycle lane on either the path or the road, but they don't use it, they hold all the traffic up if there's stuff coming the other way then look at you like you're out of line if you call them a w*anker!!!!

Sorry, you touched a raw nerve there.

Where do you suggest they go then? On the pavement? Thats a bigger hazzard to pedestrians than to motorists on the road.

Learn to use all of your mirrors, then maybe you might see them.

I do agree that if they are adult regular bike users on the roads, that they should have some kind of insurance.

You pay a tax to put your big heavy car on the road. You don't own it.
