It means he's happy, and healthy. Thus he's prepared to mate if a female came along. In nature he'd be living in a huge rice paddy, or pond. He'd need to be ready if a female ready to mate can in to the area he controls.
Remember he is a fish not a person. He'll be as happy, if not happier, not mating. Mating is stressful, and can often kill your betta in so many ways. Not to mention the female could kill him or he her.
Note if he can see the female that can cause bubble nesting as well.

It means he's ready for love, he built a home to attract a lady and raise her kids. If you would like babies, take out the divider. BUT, remember, male Bettas often hurt the females during mating, and the fry often get eaten, so breeding Bettas is not always an edifying spectacle. It's often a nasty one. It would also be a good idea (if you want to do it) to call an aquarium shop to see if they will take the fry off of your hands, or you'll have bettas in jars & glasses all over your house in pretty short order.

That means that the female is pregnant, and you'll have to keep a close eye on them. Once the male has squeezed the eggs out of the female, it's a good idea to separate them. there's a good chance that once the babies are born, they'll become food, so you'll have to remove the male also. Brine shrimp make great Betta Baby food. See your local pet store for some, and read up on when to start feeding them, and how much.

Awww.. Your male betta wants to mate! That's so cute!
Just a forewarning, although it seems like a good idea to put the male and female together at this time, don't. Chances are, your tank is not big enough or sheltered enough to handle their violent mating ritual. And if she's not ready, he very well may kill her.
Besides, what are you going to do with a hundred baby bettas? Do you know how to take care of them?
Good luck!

I have bred plenty of Betta's & they r a little tricky, because the fry are so tiny when they hatch. #1: have a small tank(1 or 2 gal.)put in a heater, get temp to 78 to 82 degrees,no air or filter. #2: put male in & let him build nest again. #3: female will have lines going up & down her body & she will be fat in belly. #4: put female in with male .they will intertwine & he will squeeze the eggs from her. #5: when they are done gently take female out & put back in her tank. #6: the male will proceed to pick up eggs & blow them into nest. he may not eat until after fry are free swimming, so feed sparingly. He takes total care of the eggs. #7: when fry are free swimming take male out or he will continue to try to keep them in nest. #8: you will need baby betta food, it is a very fine powder.once they are free swimming add gentle air supply. Good luck this can be very fun to do.

they do that all the time it's normal and it might mean it wants to have babies with the female because the male has to make a bubble nest and put the eggs in there until they hatch

It means it is ready to breed. If the female is ready, the 2 will breed. However, immediatly after seperate the exhausted female from the hormonal male, for obvious reasons.

actually, it means that he is ready for the "love life". Male fish uses the nest to attract females, and they can have babies
