"Official" longest word
The Guinness Book of Records, in its 1992 and subsequent editions, declared the "longest real word" in the English language to be floccinaucinihilipilification at 29 letters. Defined as "the act of estimating (something) as worthless", its usage has been recorded as far back as 1741. In recent times its usage has been recorded in the proceedings of the United States Senate by Senator Jesse Helms, and at the White House by Bill Clinton's press secretary Mike McCurry, albeit sarcastically. It is the longest non-technical word in the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary. The acceptability of the 33-letter adverbial form flocciÂnauciÂnihiliÂpilificastically is subject to controversy. The longest word in the Oxford English Dictionary is Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, a word meaning, "a lung disease caused by inhaling toxic volcanic ash.". [1]

floccinaucinihilipilification - is the act or habit of estimating or describing something as worthless, or making something to be worthless by said means.
At 29 letters, it is the longest non-technical word in the first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary, which presents it "as enumerated in a well-known rule from the Eton Latin Grammar". The OED dates its first use in literature at 1741 in William Shenstone's Works in Prose and Verse: "I loved him for nothing so much as his flocci-nauci-nihili-pili-fication of money".

There is dispute but some claim it is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis, which refers to a lung disease. The Guiness book of world records says it is floccinaucinihilipilification , which means "the act of estimating something worthless". Antidisestablishmentarianism is a close second.
