If I am using DSL and my nephew is using DSL via wireless router and we are both downloading at the same time, can our downloads get mixed up, or do they stay completely separate. If they stay separate, i just figured with them both being on the same line, or does the wireless router change the frequency just slightly so that we can be on at the same time.

No it won't get mixed up even if you were on the same line. You will both have different IP Addresses (destinations) that the information will be sent to.
