I have installed a Philips DVD/CD Rewriter Drive, Model: SPD2400. When I put in a DVD, the movie plays, but there is no sound. I asked the shop where I bought it from, and they gave me a sound cable, to connect from the DVD Rewiter to the Motherboard. I have connected this in the only way that seems possible, but still, no sound. Yet when I put a music CD in, there is sound! Am I doing something wrong? I cant go back to the shop yet, as I bought it in England, and I am presently in Germany.

The cable has nothing to do with watching DVDs only for audio Cd's on PCs not using XP (With Xp you don't need the cable anymore).

I am also going to assume that you checked the volume of the master and the wave channel and you have checked that your volume in the application is not muted.

It is most likely a codec problem. re-install the DVD playing software that came with the drive (usually power DVD or WinDVD). If you don't have the disk try getting a trial version or get it from a friend.

If you are watching the dvd in Windows media player then it's definitely a codec problem and you haven't installed pwoer DVD or windvd or similar.

Get an AC3 decompressor codec if all the above failed.

or get this one ( i prefer it)

Yup, as long as you make certain you purchase an IDE one (for the ribbon cable) as they are beginning off to sell SATA ones those days. purely be warned that doing issues like burning video onto DVD require the video to be encoded it quite is somewhat processor in intensity and does no longer run alright/in any respect on an older laptop. So the tension itself might artwork and additionally you would be waiting to burn records disks, yet do no longer anticipate burning movies.
