I smoked when I was pregnant with my last one. Really thought that it would just mean that he would be a smaller baby. And after having a 10 pounder, a smaller baby didn't seem so bad.

Well, he was born with acute asthma. And had chronic ear infections - had to have tubes in 3 times. Not to mention all the breathing problems both he and I had during labor, and since.

I'm so glad that I quit smoking. I don't have to use an inhaler anymore myself. My son has since been healthy, and his asthma is under control. However, I still have to live the rest of my life knowing that i did something very bad to my child's health. And all I can do is say that I'm sorry.

I can't stand to see pregnant women smoking. In my mind it's child abuse. I feel that if a person doesn't think that a healthy newborn baby isn't worth more than a cigarette then they don't deserve to have a baby at all.

For all of you who say well I smoked or so & so smoked & the baby turned out fine...well good for the baby & lucky you......I'm sorry you took a gamble on your babies health but glad for them that they turned out fine.

Anyway, I'm done ranting....I could go on & on about this but it's past my bed time..........Please people don't smoke especially when your pregnant. Nothing good comes from smoking.

I know woman who smoked while pregnant and the child turned out fine, but I felt guilty and quit when I was pregnant because I knew that my smoking was carried to my infant. It was very hard to do, but in the end I kept thinking of my child and was able to quit. Good luck whatever you decide and God bless you and your infant.

I smoked during pregancy and my white baby came out as a black baby. It is a terrible thing to do to a baby who has nowhere to go when the smoke comes in.

i have a cousin that was born with two holes in her heart that had to be closed by means of OPEN HEART SURGERY when she was 14. the doctor said it was an effect of smoking through pregnancy. the poor girl has a horrid scar from just above her belly button to just under her neck. besides the surgery and scar, her heart effected her childhood... she wasn't able to run, and play like everyone else. she was a weak kid! i don't think it's fair that she had to pay so severly for HER MOTHER'S selfish addiction!

I never smoked. My sister was a smoker, and her doc recommended weening off rather than going cold turkey. It took her one month to quit, but her kids are fine.
Smoking throughout pregnancy causes way too many issues. And, sorry, but in my opinion, if you're too selfish to quit smoking, you're too selfish to be a parent.

The only link I know between smoking and pregnancy is there is a higher risk of low birthweight.
