Does anyone bother to proofread and/or spell check anymore? Or are we content to do "just enough work" to get by?

Isn't it sad?

I read through these questions and answers, and I find it amazing that, even if one has a hard time with spelling, they can't seem to click on a button that says "check spelling," either. I think that it is just plain lazy.

I cannot stand it when I read newspapers, menu's or signs that have spelling errors on them either. I can pick out a typo in a heartbeat, and one would think that others could too.

Most people, who are not illiterate, are content with "just enough work" to get by (which is sad), and others (who are illiterate), should just use spell check so that others can understand what they are asking. I feel for those who are illiterate. This may be by no fault of their own, as they may have had parents who thought that "just enough work" to get by was enough for their children as well.

I could not imagine going through this life not being able to read, write or spell. I surely would get some tutoring or go back to school to learn. Maybe I am old fashioned, but there is no calculator that is going to "read" for you.

Yes but spell check isn't going to catch everything. For example, there, their, they're. I usually don't use spell check because I just go back and spell the word correctly. I think too many people are dependent on spell/grammer check.
