I need craft ideas for 50 antique bobbins that do not require painting over these antiques. All ideas are welcome though. They will not stand up on their own since they are the slim kind with a round end and an angled other end.

Pile them in an old wood cigar box or woven basket and put them on a little round end-table with an aged doily or small quilt underneath for a quaint display. That way you can enjoy them without defacing them and thus detracting from their value.

you can make them into 'people' if you have lots of different sizes.

I've seen this done with plant pots.

Find 2 (or 4 for 'jointed' dolls) of equal size for the arms and legs, a nice big one for the body and one for the head. You will need 4 pieces of string as well. Tie a knot in the end of each piece, run the string up each leg, take both leg strings and run them up through the body. Run one up each arm and then you can either tie a knot where the neck would be or just run all 4 up the 'head' and tie there depending on the size of the hole.

From the description you've given of the bobbins, I think I'd use the round end where the hand or foot would be and round for a 'hat' on the top of the head. The body could be either way depending if you want girls or boys.

Good luck!

Turn them into a wind chime. I love my metal chimes but wooden ones have an appeal all their own.

Good luck with your project.
