Hey? you wanna go out with me?
All the closeness and trust that exists now..... why would that change in a negative manner? Would it not become stronger/deeper? If both are true, honest and open with the other as friends now, that would only get better plus a new and wonderful aspect of the relationship would bloom and grow.
Yep.... that's what I think.

As you say, you two have known each other for a long time now, and maybe you're better off staying as best friends than becoming lovers.
When/if you two do ever go out, things will definitely change, and you might not like this change, and it might be the worst thing you could ever do to your relationship.
So, my advise to you is that you take things slow - very slow - and try to figure out the origin of your feelings and sentiments towards her. Is it really love, or do you two just appreciate each other a lot (and this can be mistaken for love)?
I've seen many friends of mine fall into this same trap. Some (in-fact only two) had a steady relationship after "falling in love" and the rest blew everything up by "falling in love" with each other. Now they hardly ever talk and the relationship is not the same as it was before. In fact there isn't much of relationship between them! And I am caught up in-between and it hurts to see friendship between best friends go to waste for a fling that only lasts a few days/weeks.
So think things through thoroughly before you act!
As the saying goes "there are many fish in the sea" but best friends are really hard to come by!!!!!!!!!!!!!! believe me!

Love, like rain, can nourish from above, drenching couples with a soaking joy. But sometimes, under the angry heat of life, love dries on the surface and must nourish from below, tending to its roots, keeping itself alive.
when the time is right, maybe she will ask you out herself.

just ask her to go do something just like you would normally do ..then when you get there have something romantic set up..candles..wine..light music..then just see what happens..a best freind can be the best idea for a mate but it could always backfire because you do know more about eachother..good luck!

If you're friends then you should be able to ask her out. I suggest using your mouth and your vocal chords...that usually works, when asking someone out.

look, don't ask her out. Just walk up to her and say, "Yo, homie, you're my girl now."
