I'm breastfeeding. My son is 7 months. Today my period returned. With my first son, my period didn't return until 3 months or so AFTER I STOPPED breastfeeding. Does this mean my 7 month old isn't "drinking" enough? Has this happened to anyone else?

My son started on solid foods at 5 1/2 months. He's eating 3 meals a day now. He's been breasfeeding four times a day, and about 3 1/2 weeks ago, starting waking up in the middle of the night to eat. He was sleeping through the night.
I breastfed for 9 months with my first son. But he did eat more often then this son.

You may notice a slight drop in supply during your period due to hormones. But you son should still have enough and you supply should be back to normal after aunt flow leaves town. Usually you get your period back after the night feedings cease. You may not even have a regular cycle until he is weaned. In any case I'm assuming you've started solids (my dd didn't like them until 9 months tho) and he will have other means of tummy satisfaction if your supply dips a little during your period. Congrats on breastfeeding!!!!

No, it doesn't mean that. Most women will get their period back if they continue nursing. It is *very* rare for a woman to not get a period until after the baby is weaned--*if* they nurse long enough. I got a period with all of my kids before weaning, and they were nursing just fine.

Did you nurse your older son just as long? Or did you nurse him for 2 months, then get your period back at 5 months? On *average* a woman's periods return later with each baby, but a lot depends on the baby. If, for instance, this baby is nursing less often or needs less milk (you would have no way to know this), then the fact that you are producing less milk could be the reason. And sometimes it's just a fluke.

If he weren't getting enough milk, you would see that he has fewer wet and dirty diapers. If the output hasn't changed, then it must still be going in!!

Breastfeeding does not automatically mean you don't get periods (or that you don't ovulate...I got pregnant with my third child while I was still breastfeeding the second even though my periods hadn't resumed). If your baby is growing and thriving, he's getting enough for him. Also, some kids will decide to wean themselves from breastfeeding earlier than others. Some like the closeness, others prefer the independence of feeding themselves. It's all good. Just be careful now, because you are clearly ovulating, meaning that you can get pregnant again.

Just because you started your period doesn't mean that your son isn't getting enough milk - the two are completely unrelated.

Breast milk is produced by demand - Your body recognizes the amount of milk that your baby needs (from the frequency and amount that he nurses) and produces it. -

With my first son, my period returned almost immediately.
With my youngest daughter - It took well over a year.

As long as he is gaining weight and seems satisfied most of the time, you are fine. Your hormones control your breast milk, so your period could cause a decrease in supply. You can also start him on solids, if you haven't already, with your doctor's ok, just to be sure he is getting enough to eat.

This is the same thing that happened to my wife and I just now. Only she pumps, so I'm certain my baby boy is getting plenty of milk. If you ever worry about your supply, you can always pump, a good pump help. But, if they keep their diapers wet, you can bet they're getting plenty.

No, that means your sons are different each from the other and that means also that your metabolism is changing.

Do not worry, as long as he seems happy after each feeding he is fine.

No, when your period returns has nothing to do with how much your child is getting. Period is unpredictable after childbirth, you never know when it will return.

Each child is different. My first was harder than my secondd so far. Don't give up! I'm sure by now you are also using baby foods. So he should be fine.
