I would be very shocked because NASCAR is a popular sport (especially in the South) and if NASCAR had a Strike and/or a lockout, I see fans doing their part in making sure that NASCAR gets out of a strike/lockout as soon as possible.

Nascar is not unionized so it would be pretty damn hard for that to happen. So therefor, if the driver refused to get in and drive they'd be replaced and probably drug through the ringers for breech of contract. The people on those teams have obligations to the owners and sponser's and most of them are proud to have those obligations and will happily fulfill them.
Now, if we are talking in a "what if" scenario and hypothetically speaking. If there was a driver who did the strike scenario for something I'm pretty sure it would result in one swift kick to the *** and a good hard drop kick to the melon. I woudl personally be floored if something or someone actually tried to do a strike/lockout for something stupid. It's just not the way the sport operates. Seriously, first, the money is just an added bonus for those guys that love to get into the car and drive. A lot of them were racing in whatever they coud drive before and did not go out with full intention of hitting the big circuit...so therefor money is not that high of importance to a lot of them. I'm sure there are your select few. Yes, I would be shocked to beat all hell if someone got greedy.

Never going to happen.Nascar is structured in such a way as to make that virtually impossible.Race tracks and sponsors put up money to pay the prize money which is considerable. Each driver has a contract which pays them plus they get a percentage of the winnings.Who would you strike against, it's highly unlikely that each driver would be unhappy enough with their owners to strike at once.Drivers would really have little or no chance to prevail in a strike at any rate there are way to many race car drivers who would jump lickety split into any Nextel Cup seat abandoned by a striking driver.Nascar is not like some other sports with salary caps and other such aggravations. The sport is not governed by the owners but are sanctioned by a governing body. All that being said Nascar did have an issue once before,it occurred at the very first race at Talladega many of the drivers complained that the surface was unsafe to race on keep in mind this is a brand spanking new track (I think they were taken off guard by the speeds) many drivers boycotted the race Nascar and car owners responded by obtaining substitute drivers, the race went on as scheduled and was won by Richard Brickhouse a substitute driver!! So like I said dont see it happening.

Thats what is great about the sport. NASCAR doesn't pay the drivers. There will never be a "strike" or "lockout" like in hockey or baseball. All of the drivers would never quit or strike. If some drivers went on strike...there would be a long line of other drivers from other series to fill those high profile spots and to take their place. The race would still go on. The same way golf keeps going and never has strikes. If golfers or racers want to get paid, they have to win!

Wow, a lot of people knock it before they try it.

I would a lot more things accomplished on the weekends if Nascar went into a strike.

I don't think they will because everybody is paid by the team the work for rather than Nascar itself. The purses the teams get is actually a small percentage of their pay. The only reason I could see them striking is if there was some sort of safety issue. But safety has imporved so much over the last 5 years, that this really doen't worry them. They know they get paid a lot of cash for the risks they take.

that could never happen there is no union to strike and each driver brings his own individual team. NASCAR is not like the other sports. Most the drivers are driving because they love to race and when they started they were losing money but were in it for the thrill.

I would go about my regular life because I could care less if NASCAR went on strike or was locked out.

I am not a NASCAR fan...Sorry to let the air out of your baloon or should I say tires...

Can't happen. Each driver is an independent contractor and each team is an independent company. However, your question is a good one. What if they did unionize, like the NFL of NBA, what would happen to the sport? I think the answer is in the question. The NBA is struggling so bad they can't keep all the teams profitable and the NFL is having similar difficulties, both due to payroll and fan loss.

Very good question, just very hard to answer....Hmmmm

That would be:

A bad news for rednecks.
A good news for IRL-Champ Car.
An opportunity for many drivers to think twice before getting involved in the WWE-like NASCAR world of now.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't even go there. I am a relatively new NASCAR fan, but I am hooked! There are only 2 sports I love and that is Football and NASCAR. They get me through the entire year. They are my only 2 vices...well besides smoking and drinking and.... geez let's just leave it at that.

it couldn't happen because NASCAR drivers are independent contractors, there is no collective bargaining agreement between the leauge and the drivers like there is in other sports. each driver simply negociates an indivisual contract with a car owner.
