While the energy that resides in your tissues and body cannot be destroyed, this energy does not mean a conscious afterlife. For you to be conscious and aware, you need the physical and chemical wiring of the human brain. Without it, the only higher meaning you can find in the release of the stored energy in your body at death is to be fully pulled into the cycle of life. You won't be conscious of the fact, but you will become the life of many other creatures over time. Matter can be destroyed, and while it can be altered, energy is eternal.

It depends on your definition of "spirit". If you mean some unknown kind of energy that gives you life, than maybe you're right. But all known forms of energy can transform into other forms. That doesn't mean that any pattern in that energy survives the transformation. For example, coal is burned to make heat energy, which boils water, and drives a turbine to make electricity. You can't test the electricity and decide what kind of coal was used, or if it came from a water turbine at the base of a dam, or a nuclear plant, or a windmill. If your spirit energy exists, what would cause it to stay intact through death?

You are mixing scientific concepts with religious concepts--with much the same result as trying to mix oil and water--getting a gooey mess.

According to religious precepts (particularly Christian precepts), we are imbued with a soul or spirit which survives the physical death of the body.

Science does not recognise the existance of a soul--neither saying it exists nor saying that it doesn't. From a scientific point of view, we die.

Science and religion do not have to contradict unless people are foolish enough to try to combine the two.

An anatomy textbook will explain the physical what of a woman's body. The Song of Songs in the Bible explains the why of a woman's body. There is no contradiction.

We are animated by complex self sustaining, but ultimately self destroying chemistry.

A candle flame is energy, but when you blow it out you don't think that it's just gone somewhere else or continues in the form of a disembodied flame. The heat is dispersed and the chemical reactions cease.

Just as you cannot have a heartbeat without a functioning heart you cannot have a consciousness without a functioning brain.

You were dead for billions of years before you were conceived, were you troubled in any way during that time?

first of all, you should know that there is negative energy in the universe that can cancel the positive energy. and secondly you should realize that energy is something concerning with the universe and the soul is not a thing obeying the laws of this universe. so it is immortal and it cannot be transformed any more...the fact is that, soul is concerned with a spiritual world that we can't imagine in a language of science and mathematics.but only in the language of love.

There is something I read years ago, that said when we die at the moment of death we actually lose 1.5 oz. The soul maybe?

If you trust me then please go and read a Hindu Mythological book 'Mahabharata' because your question will truly and completely could get the answer from there. There is no harm in reading other religious books (if you are not a Hindu)
