Why are they still there, would it not be better to use them to protect our own shore lines against terrorism, after all we are an island.

For your information i am British and also an ex- serviceman. Recent reports of over 1200 troops going awol shows how the troops feel. They will always do their job because they are professionals, it is up to the politicians to listen to the people and say thats enough before any more are killed unnecesarily. At the end of the day it will be up to them to sort them selves out anyway why should British servicemen die needlessly. Be Heard!!!!!!!

Firstly a question: You're American I'm presuming?! Do you actually know what an Island is, cause an Island you aint!
As regards getting troops out, I totally agree. The Whitehouse is all about scaremongering and driving the economy through war and oil. (I'm not going to go into that bit, because it goes on and on how Bush is doing this). Anyway, troops are allowed to remain stationed there to fight 'insurgents' and 'Terrorists'. This is the Whitehouse’s line but in reality America and other nations in Iraq and Afghanistan are nothing more than occupational forces, under the guise of peace keeping forces helping keep order in a 'transitional phase'. Having visited America a few months ago the one thing that REALLY struck me was how closed and monopolistic your major media i.e. Fox News is. I could only equate the way in which the news was presented with a Stalinists dictatorial state such as North Korea. Anyone opposing the American Cause was instantly a terrorist. Do Americans not realise that these people suffered for years under a sadistic ruler and all they want is a peaceful free state? This can NEVER be achieved when there is a foreign army running the country through stealth by using powerless elected representatives as puppets. It may not have been this way if George Bush's true intentions were to liberate a chastened people; however his only interest was in the oils under those people’s barefoot feet.

No, we can't. Unfortunately i don't have the time nor the space to explain it all here. Without a strong government & military presence Iraq will descend into chaos. Warlords will break up the nation into sections and fight over it adnausium. Look at the recent history of central america if you think i'm lying.
I still haven't seen gas prices go down so the oil argument is for crap. Why would you expect the upper class to *enlist* in the *voluntary* military service? And why must all of you who have *never* served try to say that we're in the "lower economic strata" get off your high horse and do something- talk is cheap!

The reason they're still there is that there is NO draft. Start up a real draft and you'll start to see more of the population get concerned...right now, people are too comfortable to do what they did during Vietnam; protest vehemently. The majority of people that are supporting and promoting this travesty have not served in the military, and have no family members serving. The majority of people that are serving are those from the lower economic strata...Get it? Ruin the economy so that, in order to eat, you've got to be a soldier, and don't worry that you've created thousands of emotionally, psychologically, and physically crippled human beings...Sounds like the some one thinks they're king...In reality, it's all part of PNAC

lets let the rest of the world do whatever
let it fall into nazi domination
its not our problem
lets just protect our own shores
In the end, no man is an island, and neither is a country

They're are still there because Bush painted himself into a corner. Oil is not worth young men and women dying for and that IS why they're dying. If he wanted to liberate people he could start right here at home.

I'm sorry, but you can't. Bush is waiting on a good excuse to get his daddy's friends Iran's oil... And he does want the brits to help out once more so that its not just American soldier dying...
Just my 2 cents.
