Absolutely nothing backward with what you have written. However I believe muslims are backward because:
1) They have the lowest literacy percentages throughout the world (when compared to other peer communities).
2) Their religion teaches them to have blind faith which shuts them to new ideas.
3) Despite most of them having tremendous oil wealth, they have (& are) squandering it on various stupid causes & not for the upliftment of their countrymen.
4) They are a very violent race which cannot even live amongst themselves in peace - see the bomb explosions in Bangladesh, the chronic Shia - Sunni killings in Pakistan, the killings of civilians in Algeria ....

There's nothing wrong. And I respect Muslims and Islamic practises. People make mistakes in judging and they're human, plus there are certain people who do wrong in the name of Islam, which is a most shameful thing. It does more harm to Muslims all around the world than good.
Don't give yourself worrylines, there might be people who say the wrong things, but here are people that respect you and do not discriminate you.

i don't think you are backwards at all.
i pray (talk to my god) a few times a day, but don't wash to do it. i think you (muslim religion) have a 'better' way. you have rituals to get ready to pray so you have the time to think about your praying. i think that's awesome.
i don't understand the whole clothing thing in the summer , though. i was married last summer on the beach. my sister in law is muslim (married a muslim man and converted) and was covered head to toe while her husband was in shorts and a t shirt and their children in bathing suits. the husband took the children into the ocean and almost drowned them and my sister in law was not allowed to get wet . not even to handle her wet children. i don't get that.
sex after marriage is fine, but with a hole in the sheet so your private parts don't touch - i just don't get it. i want to feel my husbands entire body on mine.
every religion says to respect parents.
showing boobs in public is against the law - i know. i can't tell you how many indescent exposure tickets i have and refuse to pay. most men have bigger breasts than i do so i don't have a problem going topless. from a distance i'm sure i look like a little boy.

I do not think that muslims are backward, but I have to tell you that I resent the more "militant" types. I've received uninvited mail from a hardline muslim that just reaked of disrespect for non-muslims.
In order to receive respect, one has to show respect.
The non-muslim who thinks your backward because you wear bigger clothes, etc. is just as disrespectful as the muslim who calls western women whores because they choose not to wear big clothes.
It's a two-way street. Peace.

These are actually great ideas, I wish more people believed in this. I'm christian and I believe the same thing. Maybe it's not about changing peoples views because we can't but it's about accepting something different. Most people don't like "different". That's all.
