I believe most politicians have the best of intentions when they first become involved with politics. But, quickly, hubris sets in and overtakes humility. They forget that they're supposed to be public servants; and the soon learn that Washington, DC is nothing more than a politicized version of "Let's Make A Deal".
Voter apathy is another issue, and that, too, helps politicians to become the 'crooked liars' that they become. Once they realize that WE don't care, THEY don't care either. And they easily become addicted to the power, status and privilege they enjoy as an elected official. Soon it becomes convenient to lower their standards and disregard their constituency. Suddenly, they're influenced by lobbyists, special interest groups, wealthy elitists, and big business.
History repeats itself, and that repetition becomes more slothful as time goes on. If you want the political system to change, it's up to you to make that happen (and all others wanting change).
Get involved in the political system. Voting is a joke these days. In fact, politicians prefer low voter turn-outs because it betters their chances of being re-elected. To affect real change, citizens need to initiate a second American Revolution.
But, like lobsters languishing in a pot full of lukewarm water, we're just too comfortable. We won't start screaming until our agony outweighs our apathy. By then, the pot is boiling over, and it may be too late.
The U.S.Constitution affords citizens the right to bear arms against a tyrannical and oppressive government. But few of us have the stomach for bloodshed or violence. So we'll sit and b*tch about - and the sleazy politicians will keep on sucking off the taxpayers' teat, enriching themselves with lavish salaries; outlandish cost-of-living automatic pay increases (while refusing to give 'common folks' a minimum-wage increase); all-expense-paid luxury vacations; outrageous health and medical benefits; and a retirement plan second to none in the world!
Unless - and until - we get off the couch, put down the remote, and take to the streets demanding our country back, nothing will change. As long as our primary concerns are: maxxed-out credit cards; Britney Spears' love life; $3.00-a-gallon fuel for our $60,000 SUVs; Jacko's pedophilia; professional landscaping for our $350,000 homes; "low prices -everyday" at WalMart on junk we don't even need; and the latest rankings of our favorite baseball team, nothing will change. -RKO-

Some do. Some care very much about the country and want to see the American people live decent lives, have job and education opportunities, and feel secure that they will not lose their health, possessions or family. And some don't. They are so hungry for political power that they wish someone to fail just because they are of a different political party no matter how much it will hurt the country. It is really pretty easy to figure out who is who. I sometimes wonder why anyone would expose themselves or their family to today's poisonous political atmosphere. 20 years ago it was tough, today it is obscene.

Some fools (aka) the politicians are making up crap bill's to get passed by the congress .. they just throw these bills out to see if they pass the smell test .... If it basses they get reelected and make more money .. The American people are hurt again .. As long as these so called politicians walk in block step with the people like Kennedy they will never get any thing done for the people... most of these people that go to congress poor are rich when they leave .. how could this happen with out kick back bribes or looking the other way or voting for crap bills...The fox watching the hen house...

No the current administration doesn't care about you and me, sorry to say. Maybe you feel this way because conservatives are in control. Maybe next time you should vote Democrat to really see how better off the country is. You are right though: with the current administration, they are crooked liars. I couldn't have said it better myself.

Honestly I think they are just like any group of people, you have some who really care and try to make good choices and care about the well being of others, and then you have some who do it just for the money and power or whatever. But I honestly think some do care...

The only thing that they care about is making their political opponents look more irresponsible than they are so that they can get elected again. Because as we all know you can't get bribes from big corporate lobbies if your not in office.

I think very few politicians care about you & me. Most of them are only in it for what they can benefit from it for themselves.

You would be crazy to think that they actually gave a damn about the working class people that elect them. They are worried about themselves, and money.
