'Get Wasted' means to use alcohol or drugs to alter your experience enough to feel 'out of it' or distracted enough that your problems seem insignificant.
Fittingly the consequences make you feel you wasted your time because you usually have some physical 'hang over' or withdrawal symptoms that can include pain, and the problems you had before you 'got wasted' are still there and there are new problems as a result of 'getting wasted!'

I usually associate getting wasted with being drunk.

It means to be really messed up due to drugs and/or booze
example: "I was really wasted this 4th of July."

I think get wasted means to do any type of drug excessivlly, where you are not in your right state of mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get intoxicated. Whether it is by drugs, alcohol, or some other type of high(huffing gas, etc).
