Well, we gotta get energy from somewhere. I support solar and wind, I think there's tera-watts of uncaptured solar potential out there, our Real Problem is our chronic dependency on private vehicles, which are much harder to run off electricity. However, as honda has proven with the FCV, you CAN run a private car off hydrogen fuel cells. You just need reliable grid(or private) power to run the hydrogen fueling station. These are not impossibilities, but they are things that need to be developed to power the world in the 21st century. Coal's got potential, too, and we've got a lot of it, you can burn coal in such a way that it's almost 100% clean, but the BIGGEST IMPACT of all on the current energy situation will be CONSERVATION. If you're not driving, not running all the lights in your house all the time, you're using a lot less energy. If you live by the coast, and have control over the use of your yard, set up a private windmill. One of the problems with 'the environment' today is the LAW. We've boxed ourselves in with all these rules and regulations that say 'you cant do this, you cant do that, nope, not legal, no, you cant use your land for a small home farm, no no and NO'. You see a lot of that.

We like to call ourselves 'the land of the free'. In some states/counties, it's 'land of the fee'(and home of the slave). We need MORE americans working INdependently to get out there and start working the energy issue. Get out, and invent something! If ya don't like coal, well tell me how else I can keep my house warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and keep the freezer running so my food doesn't go bad. Don't just 'government should this, that, and the other' etc. People are tired of hearing about 'what the government should do'. What are YOU willing to do? Willing to walk, or ride a bike? That'd be a great start, there....let Exxon sell their crap to someone ELSE. Do that long enough, and gas'll be back under a buck etc., and the freeways will be wide open. And, by the time it's all said and done, we won't need gas, nor coal, nor other fossil fuel, nor will we HAVE to do trade with countries that more or less seem to hate us, anyway. They can rot n starve, and figure out how to get on without us....watch out for the environmentalists, I think some of them serve foreign masters...
