The biggest thing is for her to tell her doctor - this isn't time to be feeling embaressed. I found out I was PG at 5 weeks, and had quite a few drinks (as well as being a full time smoker at the time) that first month, and felt horribly about it. I told my doctor and she said not to worry about it, just stop drinking and smoking. I did, and I have a perfectly healthy 16 month old daughter.

The important thing is that she stops now, the sooner she stops the better her chances of everything being fine. She needs to get a prenatal vitamin and begin it immediately. You can get them at any drugstore, over the counter. You don't have to get the real expensive ones right now, just the generics are fine. Remember, she still has 7 weeks of her first trimester left, that is a great amount of time to turn her pregnancy around and correct her lifestyle. My friend did that and her baby was born very healthy and is absolutely beautiful, you would never know his mom was terrified because she had drank her first 10 weeks of pregnancy not knowing she was pregnant.
Your friend also needs to get to the doctor, asap. They will help her sort through the possible impact the vicodan and alcohol might have had.
Again, the most important thing is that she stops now and begins a healthy pregnancy lifestyle. Good luck to you and her.

I was in the same boat she was when i was younger, although i wasn't drinking quite as heavy, but i was smoking too. If she stops now, the baby has extremely good chances of being fine. I didn't know all this when i was younger. When my doctor asked why i wanted an abortion, i told him this same reason. He told me not to worry, at this early age, the risks are very low if found out and prevented right away. as in no more drinking/smoking. I've known people who drank and/or smoked the ENTIRE pregnancy, and their babies were fine. Noone knows for sure, but as much as I am pro-choice, there are consciquenses to having an abortion. Tell your friend to talk to a doctor, but think twice about her options.

She should talk to her doctor immediately. In some cases, they'll run tests early to make sure that the baby is okay. If something is wrong, they will also be able to provide the assistance she needs to make the choice that is correct for her and the baby. Tell her in either case to stop drinking and that she should ask her doctor what to do about the vicodin.

I too was pregnant and didn't know it. I drank the same or more. But as soon as I found out, I stopped drinking. My baby was fine. You need to tell her that she needs to let her doctor know. There is tests they can do on the baby to see if the baby has normal growth. Tell her not to worry. God only throws things like this at a person that he knows will overcome the problem. So tell her to be faithful.

The baby should be fine. Tell her to start taking prenatal vitamins and let her doctor know that she is pregnant. The baby is still living off a yolk sack so there was no alcohol crossing over from the placenta. It starts in about week 6.

She should tell the doctor how much she was drinking. They can assess the situation from there.
I know how she feels. I wasn't drinking daily, but I found out I was pregnant two days after a Christmas party where I definitely over indulged. My doc told me if she had a dollar for every person who had done that, she'd be retired, living in Hawaii!

the umbillical cord isnt connected to the mothers circulation yet so the embryo is getting all its nutrients from the yolk sac right now. the baby should be fine but when she goes for her first prenantal appointment she should tell her doctor so they can run test and maybe send her to a genetics doctor to figure out the possibility of something being wrong with the baby later on.

The first thing to do is when she go to the doc. tell the doc. everything do not hide it and they Will tell you what is next. I know a lot of people who was drinking before they found out and the baby came out find. The key is stop now that you know.

It's not her responsibility to 'know' whether she's pregnant.
It IS her responsibility to 'know' whether she's POSSIBLY pregnant, - and act accordingly.
***
You'll get all kinds of answers, -but you can only wait to see what (if any) damage has occurred. But the first weeks ARE the most important.
***
BTW, ... stand up and admit that it's you doing this.. not your 'friend'. That old line works on suckers.
BTW2: my adopted first son is a wreck because of neglected pre-natal attention and premature birth, - I won't go into it here. But why should a young man go thru life profoundly deaf, some cerebral palsy and other learning disabilities?
