I would, and may I add that no, England weren't good enough to win, but Portugal couldn't even beat our 10 men, so who are the real losers? Surely with a 1 man advantage they should have beaten us easily, but no they still couldn't score so perhaps Portugal aren't quite as good as a lot of you seem to think.........................

There's nothing wrong with asking whether a team progressed as far as they did due to unsportsmanlike conduct. It's an interesting point.
Sure, every team in the tournament has decisions go against them or make fouls that go unspotted but Portugal were fairly unique in the amount of diving and petitioning of the ref to get other players booked/sent off - even Italy weren't that bad! The fact that it's been seen in every game they played and was not addressed by the ref until the semi-final is what's of concern and is the talking point.
That said England were almost certainly not good enough to win the tournament even if they had made it past Portugal so it's academic really.
One final point - how does being a law graduate (see earlier answer) make anyone an authority on football?! T**t !

A rematch isn't likely to happen for a long, long time...
Portugal are in Group A for the UEFA European Championship Qualifiers. They'll have to beat Belgium, Finland, Poland, Serbia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and then Kasakhstan before they get a chance to meet England again...
With an ageing Figo and too much reliance on fouls they aint got a chance...
Remember... Everyone has been saying England played very poor in this World Cup and yet Portugal couldn't even score against them with an extra player on the field.
useless... put them in front of a quality side like France and they just fall apart.

Sorry, Angel, I disagree...
Last 2002 WC South Korea - Italy was officiated by the amazing referee Byron Moreno. By now, I discovered he isn't the world worst, Ivanov in Holland - Portugal was so far worse - and I hope this ranking will never change in the next centuries.
Moreno's one-way officiating pulls easily Italy out of the tournament. Why easy? Because Italy too fails the match. They deserve to win, best playing in 10 against 11, but with a best effort Moreno's silly decisions shouldn't be enough to save Korea. Shoots out of goal!!!. Ahn scored with head near Maldini, 20 cm. taller!!!!
So, there are some rights to blame the referee, but England waste his chance at penalties. And a referee could be wrong judging diving, fakes, and so on, but a penalty is a penalty.
If the match would be replied, I will give again 66% chances at England as I already did. But you lose the real match as Italy did.

Actually, England controlled the game and played better than Portugal. Initially, England possessed the ball the most but failed to make sharp aims. Portugal, on the other hand, had little chances but they use it well. If only Rooney could keep a cool head.......
A rematch is unnecessary but a friendly match is good enough.
Besides, Portugal only won through the lottery (penalty).

Alright, I don't think England could beat Portugal in a re-match, considering Portugal would have Deco etc back. We need an inspirational captain (Gerrard!!) and a better manager - Sven was not all that and I don't think McClaren is either....
Though, I'm disappointed with Portugal, after the France game - they cheated too much and didn't deserve the win.

and who wants a remach without Ricardo (or anyother) in goal, 11 english A-Team + 4 refs against 11 Portuguese all of B-team? Wouldn't be nice?
There were 3 matches: 2000 (Portugal won 3-2 (England was in advantage 2-0), 2004 (Ricardo without gloves) and 2006 (Ricardo didn't even had to take off his gloves!).
How many you still want? Learn something with France ok?

maybe England would win if there was a rematch and maybe Portugal would score 3 goals and not have to take it into overtime! This topic is so "what if" that none if it counts! it's my opinion against her opinion and his opinion etc..... The game is over! England didn't make the final 2 and neither did Portugal! Talk about having to get over the bull****!

You seem to be ignoring the simple FACT the England were just not good enough to win, I also noticed that you have not mentioned Crouch holding on to the Trinidad defenders ponytail to gain leverage to score Englands first goal in a previous game, thus changing the Trinidad tactics and result or does that not count as cheating cos he's English , Would you like to have been the portugese player having his balls stood on by Wayne Rooney ? or is that not a dirty tactic cos he's English as well ?
