I am of Goan heritage. Born and raised in Australia and Canada. Haven't been to India since I was 7 y.o. Will be travelling there this year (2006) to celebrate my Granny's 80th B'Day.
Will be headed to Bangalore, Goa, Bombay and Delhi. What are the hotspots I should be checking out? I'm 26 and want to have a good time. Hopefully meet some beautiful girls that resemble Aishwarya Rai. lol. Should I join Bollywood?

Goa was great. I was there for a few days last year. The beaches were great, the people were nice and it was my favorite place in India (between Mumbai, Delhi and Agra). Sorry but I don't know where you can see Bollywood.

Besides your own heritage state Goa, you will be going to 3 places, Goa, Mumbai and Delhi - all major cities. These 3 cities in themselves are hot spots on India's map.

Many valued contributions have been made about travel, tourism and in fact whole of India in these columns earlier. With the anticipated permission of one such esteemed contributor, Master Quark - an American, I reproduce his recent a few lines for your ready reference:

Quote: India is the ultimate travel experience and once one falls in love with India one does not have the slightest desire to go anywhere else...Sure I still want to see Egypt and Istanbul, but having traveled to India for 3 months each year for many years now...I sometimes get the itch during the rest of the year when I am not in India. I sometimes feel a bit of tears under my eyes...loooonging to return.

There is no flaura and fauna like Indias.
There is no Topography like Indias (from pristine beachs all the way to, and in between, up to the Himalayas).
There are no cities as wild and exciting as those in India.
There is no diversity of cultures in any country that can match Indias.
There is no Architecture like Indias.
There is no tolerance like the tolerance of India.
Yes I could go on and on but the night is short...
But most importantly there are NO people on the planet that can match the kindness, warmth, genuine concern, interest in foreigners, and "Chanti' of the India people. They are as close to devine as you will find on this miserable globe!

One does not go to India like one goes to the Bahamas, one goes to India to find the inner self and strength, along with everything else...at times, one wants to pull one's hair out and then Mother India says here, "I have a gift for you". Then one is transported to another realm.......

Go to India and never return! (at least a month for your mind to turn away from your Western value system and begin to see the wisdom of India's mores). Unquote.

Hope, you will have a nice time in India and would realise what have you been missing all these years since you were 7?
