America is a big country with many, many roads. Maybe those hot reactions you see are just coming from a bunch of eccentric people shouting from those roads.

Come to think of it, that's how America got started in the first place. Hm...

Probably societal brainwashing. In regard to the specific question about America: post Sept. 11, people have taken the attitude that to question the American way of life/thinking is unpatriotic and to participate in such behavior is unquestionably bad... leading to ostracism from friends, neighbors, family, etc. So, I suppose, as long as one acts super-patriotic (by the new definition), one's principles cannot be questioned. It's become pretty much a rabid tendency among many citizens.

You're crazy if you think most Americans can not accept criticism based solely on your experience on Yahoo Answers. I meet several people each day who don't even have access to the internet and I would venture to guess that most "Americans" (does this include Canadians, Mexicans, Panamanians, Colombians, etc...?) don't even know about Yahoo Answers.

Perhaps only those of us who can not accept criticism partake in the insanity of answering questions.

Perhaps we just want more points....

Nice "gotcha"-- if answerers do anything but nod obediently, they've supposedly proven your point.
A word of advice: be careful to base your perception of reality on more than what you happen to read on this site. Voices of reason pop up here and there! Not everyone, certainly not all Americans, are nationalistic... however, when we ask/answer a question here, we make ourselves part of a sampling of individuals with strong opinions about the issue at hand. In other words, I suspect you're begging the question (so to speak).

How dare you even ask such a question of me - you are going to rot in American Xtian hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me... I think it has something to do with the overwhelming and ridiculous amount of entitlement some of these people feel. That, and our public school systems are SO worried about peoples fragile little emotions that no one has had the guts to tell them that their opinions suck and their ideas are without merit. So, they just trod over anyone they see as being a threat to their precious ideas, because as we all know YOU are responsible for MY emotions, so I have the right to lambaste you to make me feel better.

...twits!
It's like we are somehow culturally breading fundies!

That is the difference between Americans and Europeans. Both criticise the whole world but Americans exclude themselves and fail to see the relativity of their statements

it depends on the question. after 9/11 we all got a little more sensitive to how the world sees us, and of course there are some who take it to scary levels-and they usually are the ones yelling and screaming on here. but since we have freedom of speech here-and i wouldn't want to give up that freedom, the rest of us americans just have to grit our teeth, take a deep breath, and let mr or ms super patriot go on and on, even if it makes all americans look bad-because that is their right to do so.

they are good people but they are so low cultured. they make sex at 13, they keep guns, they use high consumption vehicules, they dont know anything about politics, they speak only one language. They studied in so "american" way where everything is simple and clear. they can accept criticism from themselves but not criticism from others

It's not just Americans who do those responses it's people in general. Anyone with the poor upbringing will act that way just to draw attention to themselves

Thank you for your 'criticism' of Americans.

But don't confuse freedom-of-expression and lively animated talk as "not accepting criticism".
