Are you working on a computer alot... i get this too sometimes... its a combo of continued tension build up from working at the computer and possible a wrong angle that your arms or shoulders are sitting in... If you place a small amount of tension on the muscle in the neck and back over along period of time they can spasm ache get pins and needle feelings... it not something odd... you need to get up and work the tension out... its a build up nitrogen in the muscle tissue in that area... working out will alleviate most of that or get a neck massage

it could be posture problems with how you sit, stand or kneel at work. These could be repetitive motion injuries (like carpal tunnel in your wrists) see your doc, or see if you have an ergonomics expert at work who can help you set up your work environment to eliminate work related soreness and injury.
