He should have retired from the England squad 2 years ago. When did he last have an outstanding game for England? I don't know of anyother team keeping a player on simply to take dead ball kicks and now and again get in a measured pass in open play. Beckham is simply average at anything else on the park and clearly he was kept on for his iconic status which has brough in revenue to the FA. Now the new manager has an opportunity to use the right for a fast clever players who will take people on.

OK, Beckham didn't perform that well this World Cup, but give the man a break. He has some of the deadliest crosses in world football, and I still think he can play for England. Fair enough he ain't got much skill or anything, but brilliant passer of the ball.

Lennon is also a great player, I think in time he would do good....

Each great player grows old at some stage or point in his career. David Beckham isn't the player he was 3 years ago.

yeah i miss beckham, i think he was a great captain at his peak but at the same time, i think his time has passed and therefore, the arm band needs to be on someone elses arm...he had made his decision before the new manager made it for him - he saw this coming, he was a legend at his time, but now is the time for change - well done beckham, u did us proud!

England has moved on - it has a new young wunderboy (Rooney) to get sent off and cost the world cup.

Move on... past Beckham and Rooney

well, i heard him say he'd still play for england if he's needed so i suppose that means he'd still be very much around....i know we like to throw brickbats at the guy 'cuz he's famous and that seems to be a good enough reason for some people to want to bring him down but i've seen him play at this world cup and he does his job well, IMO...so i hope he sticks around for 2010. would like to see him play for england once again.
