I think it is funny how people wanted to get away from typing all the time & talk to others, yet we are reverting back to our old ways. Not to mention all the idiots who try to type in their messages while driving down the road. How more dangerous can they be?

First, I never text and drive. Its great if you are in a place you have to be quiet. Or at the mall or walmart and you get separated. You know you guys go to tools or automotive.( I am all for laws that especially teenagers should not be allowed to talk on cell phones while driving. They aren't good drivers yet, easily distracted.) It can romantic, type a quick message, when your at work or late at nite.

The truth of the matter is that it's very good advertising. People want to do whatever everyone else is doing - especially insecure people which includes almost all teenagers. And who are the ads aimed at - teenagers. There is almost nothing so important that it can't wait until you see the person or get home to call them. Yet advertising makes it seem as if you need to have a cell phone with text messaging to be cool, to fit it, to be popular. It works because look how many people have bought into it.

I send messages when it's a short message, that is not urgent (so you can read it whenever you have the time). Besides, at least here in Argentina, it's much cheaper. The drawback is that sometimes the messages never reach the person you sent it to. I'm still waiting for a message someone sent me yesterday. I saw the person after she sent the message, but I haven't received the message yet.

Text messaging is less personal. Talking and hearing a voice is personal. I personally hate to see people text messaging in the movie theatre. Those little lights on the phone are so distracting. Rude.

I agree. Kids are gonna have SEVERE carpal tunnel when they get old from all the video games and text messaging.

We had some idiot 16 year old kill a mother to be by texting while driving. He got 15 years.

I feel the same way. Text messaging sucks!
Some people may want to say what they want and not what they mean. Like they may not want to come out and say it to a person they might rather type it so they don't have to confront the person at all.

I suppose they do it to save money since usually it's cheaper to send a text message then to talk, and also it might be that the message is not urgent so they don't necessarily need the other person to react instantly.

To just send a quick message w/out having to have an entire conversation. Also, you can skip the , "Hello, what are you doing? That's good, blah blah blah,... Not to mention how long it takes to get OFF the phone politely. It is just faster to send a quick message.

I use it because I am basically anti-social, and it is just a way of checking in with someone without "engaging." I never use my cell phone while driving a car.
