There is nothing really special about it. Sure, there have been some shipwrecks and such, but nothing out of the ordinary. For example, there have been close to 5000 shipwrecks on the Great Lakes since 1679. Is there a "Great Lakes Triangle"? The Bermuda Triangle is a heavily travelled area by both ship and plane, so you would expect some losses.
