well if you have an apprasier as a friend he could be very helpful...same for a realtor..but they are the only ones allowed to access what is know as the MLS listing....soooooo if you don't have anyone like this in your circle of friends then go to the court house armed with address of other apt buildings and do the research yourself...realty transactions are public info and all are recorded at the court house and you are allowed to go there and look up this info....

FYI: I would definitely not go to the county recorders and try to figure out comparable sales via tax assesments becuase these only increase at a very slow rate comprared to the regular appreciation we've had in the real estate market.

The best way to go about it is by getting a CMA from a Realtor in your area. If you want something more concrete pay a licensed appraiser to give you an appraisal. Or on the web you can try zillow.com.

This web site will ONLY give you an educated estimation (10+- to 20+- of the real price). I dont know if they can give you an estimate on apartment buildings buy you can try.

Good luck

If you are thinking of selling the building, then contact a Realtor in your area and ask for a CMA (competitive market analysis). If you don't want to sell and are just curious, then the tax values and recent sales of property are public records and can be accessed at the Assessor's Office of your City or Town Hall. If you want to know for estate or other legal purposes, then you probably want to get an appraisal.
