Lebanon is a great country; Beirut used to be one of the great cities of the world, before it got all shot to hell. People of all faiths could mingle in safety and tolerance, and wealth poured through the country. It could be that way again, if the mess the Syrians left behind gets cleaned up.

Palestine is not a country. The predominantly Arab towns are inside the borders of Israel. In 1948 when the League of Nations ratified Israel as a sovereign nation, they did the exact same for Palestine. However, on that very same day in 1948, Palestine and its Arab neighbors invaded Israel with the publicly sworn oath to, "push the Jews into the sea." They lost and they lost much of their land for the effort -- land that was in all actuality parts of Jordan and Egypt to begin with.
The Palestinians lost their territories in an unprovoked attack on Israel. Just as Rhineland and Sudetenland are now part of Germany, Palestine is part of Israel. Just as California was once part of Mexico, but now part of the U.S., Palestine lost their lands to a war they started. Saying that Palestine should be its own country because a million+ Arabs live there is like saying California should be part of Mexico -- or its own country for the same reason. It just doesn't wash.
Don't be fooled by a bunch of screaming Palestinians on CNN. They HAD a country, but they gambled with it and LOST.

I haven't kept up with it lately, but from what I remember of the evening news during the 1980's and '90's, I would not care to vacation there.
