One answer, get the FREE IPCOP and any old computer, (I use Pentium 90 to 200 systems, with a 1 Gb drive, 32Mb RAM)
to manage any network of up to 30 clients at full broadband cables speeds.
Once you build it you can remove the monitor, keyboard, CD device... It runs 'headless'.
IPCOP also permits SpamAssassin and blacklists...

there are different devices for connecting computers like
i) Hub - is non-intelligent device
ii) Bridge - is intelligent device with less no. of ports n uses MAC address for switching the packets
iii) switch - is intelligent device with more no. of ports n uses MAC address for switching the packets
iv) router - is intelligent device n uses IP address for routing the packets

a wireless router is a router that connects to computers with a wireless adapter. when you plug your wireless adapter into your computer, your adapter connects to the wireless router to get to the internet.
