I believe the meaning of life is to be born into this phys cal world to experience whatever it is that we need to and take that back with us when we pass on. I think we come here to experience life because it is something that we can`t feel as energy. Not sure if that's religious or not, I don`t think of myself as a religious person so it`s not a religious thing for me.

I agree with you about this religious rubbish... having read some of the answers you would think that atheists are very unhappy people because they don't ask for God's mercy! Anyone who makes those kind of generalisations is clearly ignorant or very stupid. Quoting the bible might sound good on paper, like many people here are inclined to do but I know lots of believers who are dreadfully unhappy with their lives and yet goto church every Sunday morning without fail.
I think the key to the meaning of life is to live a well balanced life - food, shelter, loving friends and family, a degree of status and doing the kind of work and hobbies that you enjoy most all! To get to this point people should be kind to each other, generous, honest, hard working but not take themselves too seriously, in life there should always be plenty of time set aside for fun and games. We should take what we need but also give back to our community in equal measures! It is logical really. We all have basic wants and needs and if these are mostly fulfilled then we can say that we have lived a good life. Of course it is necessary to make the distinquishment between our "actual wants" and our "perceived wants". A "perceived want" is something like £100 million in cash - many obsessively dreams of this, but are they not lacking something else in their life that has lead them into thinking that only money and power can bring them happiness? Many might surmise that having £100 million in their account will bring them love and friendship - it is this love and friendship that is the "actual want"! We just go about it in the wrong way!

Jesus Tapdancing Christ! Why can't the religious freaks just stay away from an answer which obviously requires a non-religious answer?
The meaning of life for all living organisms is to survive for as long as possible. Some organisms are only born to mate with no other obligations at all in their lifespan.
With us it is different because we can override that innate will to live and just commit suicide. Scientifically, I think the meaning of life is to leave offspring so that they can evolve into better organisms. Spiritually (NOT religiously) I feel it is to truly appreciate your surroundings and realise their significance in this world. For humans that means to stop and think about the world around you. If it makes you happy, then good for you. If it makes you angry, good for you too. So many people ignore the negative emotions like anger and sadness, but in the end, if we ignore those and supress them, it makes us less human.
Ah man, I can write an essay here, but like the other people said, it's totally subjective and relevant to yourself. I hope you find your own answer.

If you leave out the religious rubbish there is no meaning to life. How can there be a meaning or purpose if there is no design behind you being here. If we came from the quagmire by evolution and not design, then no one cares and nothing is meaningful or lasting.

What is the meaning of life? The question itself contains a word that is a misnomer. The word "life" should actually read "death" since this existence that we all like to call "life" is really "death." We all reside in the world of the dead, in "Hades" or "Hell," if you will. And of course, the dead know nothing, hence the reason we're continually asking "What is the meaning of life?" Since we're also inquiring of the dead, we get no sure replies.
Those receiving the gift of life and resurrected will no longer have to ask "What is the meaning of life?" Being alive, they also have knowledge and the answer to the question before it's even asked.

Life has no meaning apart from that which we give it...
'Meaning' is a product of consciousness and is therefore wholly subjective. 'Things' have no intrinsic meaning. To ask 'what is the meaning of life' is philosophically equivalent to asking 'what is the meaning of stone' or 'what is the meaning of California'.
(concur completely with your views on religious rubbish)
