seeing as they are basically acting as a terrorist organisation, cutting of powerstations, food and water to a huge palestinian population, for the abduction of one soldier, when they have thousands of palestinian prisoners? should the E.U be acting, like the Swisss government did?

to super star, you are wrong. the israeli government has thousands of prisoners, many women and many under 18 who are imprisoned for reasons as small as breaking the illegal curfew imposed by israel on the palestinians. israel has shot numerous school children on their way to school just because they walked in thw wrong place. these school children are not terrorists, the israeli army are.

FYI, the soldier is probably being tortured.
If the Israelis did nothing in response, then they would be giving a green light for future kidnapping and torture and/or murder.

Israel supplies the Palestinians with free water and power. Part of the taxes paid by the Israeli people actually go towards supporting the Palestinians. Don't worry -- the Palestinians have water, though they are now lacking electricity.

If the situation was reversed, and the Palestinians had the upper hand, do you think that there would be any Israelis left alive?

How do you suggest Israelis respond to Palestinian violence and terrorism? By dropping dead? Israelis are survivors; they can and will defend themselves.

If I were a Palestinian, I would lay down my arms and try to make peace. Israel offered Palestians 97% of their demands, and Arafat rejected the offer. It was a good and generous offer, considering that the compromises can't be ALL on the Israeli side. Israelis have been ready for peace for a long time.

Another thing: in Israel, all 18 years old males and a lot of females are drafted to the army. They are teens who have NO choice in the matter. Therefore, Israelis don't think of soldiers as you might -- tough, hardened men who chose the dangerous and possible violent life -- they think of them as their children.
When one is kidnapped, Israelis react.

Incidentally, why do you think Palestinian terrorists deliberately choose densely populated areas to attack from? They are more than happy if the Israeli army, trying to nullify the terrorists, accidentally kill an innocent bystander. It helps the terrorists' cause.

As for my view being biased and not being fact, as you accuse me of above, why do you think *YOUR* view is not biased and one-sided?!?! Show me how you present the Israeli side in your question!

I LIVE here, and I KNOW where my taxes go. I KNOW what the overwhelming majority on the streets feels about peace. We want peace. We have been willing to make concessions for a long time. However, we need a partner for peace.
My view accurately reflects around 85% of the Israeli population.

As for being one-sided: back in the 90s, there were some Palestinian workmen painting my apartment building. I invited them into my home for coffee and snacks, since it was a hot day. In return, after the workmen had finished eating and drinking, I got a warning to flee the country before the year 2000, because "Jerusalem will be covered in Jewish blood up to your knees".
I thanked them for the warning. Always nice to know when people are planning your demise.
So you want two sides? Here it is: Most Israelis want peace, and it seems that a lot of Palestinians want murder, killing, and death.

I have to believe that there are some Palestinians out there who want peace, too, but who are too afraid of Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist groups to speak out. I am sure that life is very tough for those people, and I feel for them strongly.

The EU should act - this situation has been going on for far too long (is it 60 years since the state of Israel was forced upon the Palestinians?). They are basically terrorists under the guise of a government. They need to be stopped from punishing and terrorising an entire nation and imprisoning women and children. The west doesn't care to get involved because of the zionist stronghold on the Whitehouse - they don't want to upset their influencial friends!

Nothing.

That ONE soldier is an innocent NOT a Hamas Terrorist like those that the Israelis have in prison.

Israel has the right to defend itself and to protect its citizens from Terrorism.

What did the Palestinians expect Israel to do when they ambushed and kidnapped that young soldier? Just stand back and let him be tortured and killed?

GET REAL DUDE. Palestinians are the Terrorists. Not Israel.

I think they should do nothing and Israel should manage it's own problems because people cannot go on creating a state and then even take care of it constantly, pumping money into an artificial land for people who came from all over the world. Why doesn't the EU help, for eg, my country, Romania, because we were only taken land, never given and we are not particularly well right now, but at least we got here by our selves.

I think the Europeans should applaud Israel for the constraint they have used thus far. They should also be lauded for handling their own problems. The Palestinians are the ones that keep irritating the situation, and cry foul when Israel smack back.

I have little knowledge of the whole Middle East thing.

It's not that I don't care but whenever you hear one side or the other talk about whats happened it seems none of it is their fault. They clearly deserve each other!

As for the EU response I think they should do everything in their power.....

i.e. Ban them from next years Eurovison song contest!

Whatever be the case so far there has been lot of killing of people in that sector of the state. Ithink it is high time that both the state maintain peace by following Gadhisim (the path to non-violence).

They should acknowledge the fact that Israel is an Asian country, and not allow them to participate in the Euro Song Festival anymore !

It's about time the west in general kept out of politics everywhere else. Not our business.
