ok, never used this site before - no idea what i'm doing really - but if there's anybody out there who can help a 26 year old woman who's lived in london for four years and can no longer see past the adverts for the lion king and madam tussauds, sort out a plan for her evening i'll be happy. i want to go out in london, not spend loads of money, somewhere a little off the beaten trail and which won't take me three hours to get back to south london. err, is that the kind of question that will get a response..?

Why not look in Time Out for an exhibition in a gallery open late? Should be free/cheap to get in, see something different, perhaps meet interesting people. Go for a drink afterwards, hop on a train home. Shazam!

My first response is: are you going on the town alone, with friends or with an escort? The answer to that would have a considerable effect on what you do!

Here is a site which has a lot of free and cheap and alternative ideas:

As you are a first-time user of Answers, I ought to warn you that there are a lot of idiots on here who delight in giving fatuous answers. At first one may be shocked or disgusted, but one learns to live with them (and report them for abuse, sometimes).

There is a roller disco at Kings cross. I am going there soon and it sounds like a lot of fun. You should try it.
