Having alot of security is better than none at all, or very little.

Although I agree with the other answer, that if one is really determined to do something and they have planned it well . . . it's impossible to stop. Take American Airlines Flight 63 for example. That man got onboard the flight with explosive material in his shoes (and this was after 9/11). They where half way over the atlantic when a passenger saw him trying to light his shoes with a lighter. Fortunatly thanks to training of the crew they stopped him.

I think the security shouldn't stop once you have passed it and are onboard the plane. Passengers and crew onboard the aircraft are the only people that will really stop something from happening.

Any preventive measure is better than nothing. It may stop some people from doing something stupid. A person who is highly motivated could find a way around the security. Every time someone finds something that may be a successful method (ie, shoe bomb), a new step has to be added to the security check-in. When I flew Air France out of Jordan in 1980, I was strip searched (to the underwear) and my bags were thoroughly hand searched. Hey, as long as I get where I'm going I'm not going to complain.

Airport security is still a joke. I worked in an airport for 31years for an airline and believe me I know more about security than the guards that are hired to screen passengers.. It's a farce..I could get just about anything through security...all I would need is a criminal mind..which I don't have.

Airports already adopted the necessary security measures to address the problem of terrorism. X-ray machines were designed to detect all kinds of explosives materials and weapons when pieces of baggage and passengers pass through it. In the absence of x-ray machines, physical inspections, explosive detection devices and dogs are being used for the screening and inspection of bags and passengers. Thus, do not worry about air travel because you are safe. Just be patient with the rigid and repetitive inspections.

I think it is a good idea, although some airports do too much. One time I went to a small priate airport. They made me take off my coat, my shoes, and even my belt. They also used a small metal detector and ran it up and down me. It was so weird.

Then later during the year I went to an international airport. I had to take off my shoes and go through a metal detector. That was it. I didn't have to take off my belt, and they didn't run a small metal detector up and down me.

I was shocked at the difference. I think that a private airport shouldn't be so strict.

Largely ineffecitve, a nuisance and basically designed to make us feel safer, without actually doing so. At least most of the measures.
