Rutherford found that some of the particles that was used for the bombardment didnt follow the path the expected path..ie instaed of following a straight path some followed a curved path and some were even scattered back..ie they literally bounced back..this made Rutherford to think of a massive center in the middle of the atom known as nucleus

Since the rays bounced off, it proved not only that there is something solid in the middle but also something POSITIVELY charged. Only then the rays will be repelled. This lead to the discovery of nucleus.

[He2+] rays were fired by rutherford at a tiny tiny gold foil....now most of these rays went straight, over and through the gold foil,
but some of them were bent or curved,..
rutherford concluded that these He2+] particles must be hitting something...
so he propounded the nucleus,.., though later he was proved wrong ...rutherford was right to a certain extent, however his model of atom is vey primitive.

because they bounced off weirdly and if there was no nucleus then they would go through normally but because the atoms bounced off at a weird angle it proved there was something solid in the middle

some of the rays deflected back which led him to think that there was positive charge on nucleus which repelled positive alpha rays

Imagine that you fired a massive shell at tissue paper, and every once in a while, it bounced back...
