Hi. TOSHIBA makes a great Laptop. I have the Satellite A105-2716. Mine was more than $800, but they do make some less expensive models. Also, they tend to offer rebates on a regular basis. Good luck.

i've used toshiba, fujitsu, nec, dell, ibm, hp, compaq and other unknown brands they're all the same as far as durability and reliability is concerned except for the unknown brands for some unkonown reason they just stop/hang. for $800 you could choose a pretty decent model from these brands. toshiba was the leader in laptops during the 90's they used to top all reviews during those times they still make great laptops. i just bought a laptop a month ago and was choosing between a toshiba and dell end up with a sattelite, very statisfied with its performance. my suggestion go to the shop and see the models from any of the known brands within your price range and see what takes your fancy and buy it.

Go with a Dell. They're well built, tough and reliable. Ultimately it depends on what you want to do with the computer (work, gaming, internet usage etc), but a mid spec Dell will serve you well.

for $800 you can not expect too much. you can get a decent Dell laptop but still with a Core Duo processor, the Inspiron E1505. Have a look

From my experience i feel that an HP computer would be the best choice. I have a Dell, my friend has a Gateway, and my other frien has a HP and we all agree that the HP is the best.

You can check Dell. They usually have big sale around summer time before school starts. Their computers are not high-end, but good enough for everyday use.
