The best way is to really "speak" to as many as possible without bothering the dictionary or thesarus. Anybody other than an englishman thinks in his own language and converts it into english when speaking and for this fluent conversion of ideas, the only way is to speak!! Classes or books may help you know the correct method, but its our own efforts in speaking that helps most!!

The fun way to enrich is :
a) Read lot of Comics
b) Watch English movies (Preferably comedies, definitely not the all action ones)
c) Chat in Yahoo with friends for as long as you want

Add to the above, 1 hour each day of the following:
a) Mark 3-5 new words in a newspaper, get their meaning, and use them in conversations with your friends.
b) Read some classics & poems -Byron, Shelley etc
c) Watch some of the serious discussions/debates shown on the tube.

U shud be well on the way to be an expert.

The secret stays in "practice". Simply, speak English! Find yourself
an American or British/Australian/..., friend and make conversation with
him/her; on various subjects. You may also find a temporary job in a
hotel; or as an (assistant) touristical guide. But be aware of the dif-
ferences between the literary English and the English language spoken
by uncultivated people--promoted in the most modern media channels.
Nota Bene: first of all, you must enrich your "general culture".
Otherwise, you will have not about what to talk (except, of course, the
trivial things).
P.S.: a "pretty good" English language lover--as you claim to be--, will
never write "i've to know"! Instead, she will write "I have to know". This
is the recommended manner of writing when you are addressing to
someone in an (semi)official environment.
