She went back after 6 weeks for results and was told she has to have cemo because it has gone into the lymp glands does she have a good chance of surviving this?

Is it a large bowel tumour? People do survive with lymphatic spread, the current 5 year survival rates are 40% if the spread is not up to the highest point of vascular ligation, and 12% if it is.
Chemo is widely used and I doubt your mothers doctors would put her through it if they didn't believe it would be of benefit. The most common chemo used is a drug called 5-fluorouracil, used for patients with recurrent or metastatic large bowel cancers. The response to 5-FU can be increased with by giving concomitant folinic acid.

I think it is best to say that every person who is diganoised with cancer is treated as a individual case. This is because they are still not exactly sure how cancer starts so each person is treated as an individually unique case. With this in mind you can never say yes they will survive or no they won't. What is good is that more and more people are being cured each year and as this number grows then the better chances people have now and in the future. I wish you all the best

It's best to ask the doctor or her specialist. Although most people have good intentions, there can be a lot of scare mongering when you ask this type of question on here.
I know many people who have survived bowel cancer. I hope your mum keeps positive and I'm sure she will be fine. I wish you both good luck.

Cemo can destroy the cancer from spreading, but the all the good cells in ur body are destroyed. But miracles happen.

My father had colon cancer two years ago and it had spread to his lymph nodes. His last three catscan and bloodwork have come up good. It is survivable unless it has spread to major organs, then the chances are greatly less.

Mayo Clinic on-line and WebMD have some good info on this for you. Colon cancer is very serious. If it has metastasized to the lymph system it may be incurable.

You didn't say if she had a any sort of offical classification exmple...stage 1 ,stage 2 etc. Go to Google and put in colon cancer and see what you get.
