Basically. I have hovered at 64kg for about a year and a half. I go on a diet and drop one or two kg but then within a week i am back to 64kg and even if i put on weight within a week i am back to that weight. The lowest i have ever been is at 58kg when i wasn running marathons and not weight training.I eat very healthily and exercise very regularly.
I am hypothyroid.
How can i drop those dreaded 4kg and keep them off or is my body supposed to stay at that weight?

Your body doesn't have a predetermined weight, but it does try to maintain itself. There are several survival mechanisms that cause this to happen. Whenever you lose weight your body produces hormones that are designed to facilitate fat storage and get that weight back as soon as possible. It also slows down your metabolism so that you burn less calories. Your body wants to be prepared in the even of starvation.

Whenever you gain weight in a short period of time, most likely do to a period of bulk eating, your body ramps up your metabolism and you usually burn the excess weight off quickly when you return to normal.

In order to loose the weight and keep it off you have to diet and exercise until you are at your target weight, and then find a level of dieting that allows you to maintain that weight for several weeks. After a long enough maintenance period your body will begin to accept your new weight and strive to maintain that status.

The deal is.. what ever your body weight is, if you want to lose weight you will have to work on it daily. If you don't, it will always return to your original starting point.

Your body does have a "set point" and that would be whatever you normally weigh. It is very hard to change the set point of your body, some say that it cant be done. So the best advice that I can give you is work work work on it daily if you want it to change.

I think our bodies do have a natural weight that is coded in our DNA. Now 100 kg won't be natural, and the extra should be lost, but 64 might not be unreasonable based on your age/sex.
