in office xp if i try to open new excel workbook this msg apper

i think it may be virus or i want to install any patch.iam using win200pro ,office xp with sp3.so pls help to fix this problem .

Hey, first install anti-virus & scan whole system. u can download AVG from www.download.com. If it's not virus, then try to open with MS office 2003. If it's steel don't, try MS office 2007 (beta). if it's says, it's can't open it, then be sure the file is currepted. Take care. By

therefore this is'nt an excel file

First of all you did not mention the file that you are trying to open. How someone know without knowing the file name. just paste it in here with the complete extension (e.g. abc.doc or xyz.xls)! Every program associates an extension with the file name to make it recognizable for the program to run. Check you are using the appropriate product/software to open the file concerned. Make sure it has .xls extension if you intend to open it in MS Excel (some other extension also work with Excel, like database files or any other worksheet generator files)!

either ur file is currupted or ur office cud be currupt. try to install ur office again and then try to open the same file
if not possible yet then ur then the possibility of curruption of ur file increases.

try changing the extension to .msx
