God bless you. I would suggest you start in John. It is the most beautiful of all the gospels. I also suggest that you pray and ask God for wisdom and guidance every time you open your bible to read. Ask him to reveal the purpose of the verse or verses to you. If you start with a verse a day, your spirit will begin to hunger for more. The first step is the hardest. Make it a habit and it will become much easier and you will begin to enjoy it more and more.

Hey kartoon, I know how you feel. My husband can just sit down to read the bible, but me, not so good at it.
What I usually do is to read a book on various bible teachings (obedience, forgiveness, salvation, faith, etc.) and look up the bible verses that are quoted. Most of the time, I get side tracked and start reading more than is quoted and I am off and running.
You might also get into a bible study group. That will help you get motivated.
Another thing: be sure that your bible is easy for you to understand. I have a difficult time with the "thees and thouest and saith" things. I use a New International Version Study Bible. My husband uses the New KJV. There are many out there. Stop by your local Christian book store and read a familiar verse in several versions of the Bible. See which one is most clear and understandable to you.

Try reading the book of John, then the book of Romans because they are quick but have a lot of good stuff in there.
Then maybe ask questions about what you read, and try to find answers to those questions, or passages that relate to what you just read.
Or, you could go with something that you find interesting! Creation, Psalms, Law, Geneology (who WERE those guys?), Church Epistles, Revelation? If you've been through this before, something out of there might strike your fancy.
For a "none of the above" answer, try the link below, for one of the many guides of getting thru the Bible in one year:

THE PURPOSE DRIVEN LIFE book is super. So, as the title of the book implies, you need to read the Bible with A PURPOSE.
Example: 1. Topical: Maybe you want to read the Bible to find out what it says about helping the poor or any topic.
2. Intellectual: Try to quiz yourself. "What is the shortest book in the Bible?". etc.
3. Connecting with God: What character of God you want to meditate? Loving God? Gracious God?, etc.
4. Attend a group and read the bible together.
ALL THE BEST.

Dear Friend,
Make a list of all the things you want accomplished in a day. Once you are ready with your list, put "Read my Bible for --- minutes" right on top of the list.
Next, read the passage you have chosen....once you are through with that, get on with the rest of your list.
You will be able to do it when you give it your top most priority - like your very life depends on it! And indeed your very life depends on your reading His word daily.
Hope this helps :-)
And remember His love for us is not a result of how much time you spent reading the Bible - he loves us unconditionally just the we are.

don't read it because you are forced by your beliefs
read it because you want it . it shoud come from within your self
read it freely
i think it is better to read bible stories with comics or cartoons so you will not get bored .
or try to read a chapter for a day before you sleep and let God take care of the rest and wake up in the morning praising god as you watched the beautiful heaven reflecting his majesty

Read Genesis and ask yourself if these stories pass the laugh test. If they don't, you have no need to read any more.
If you read it online you can also see the interesting footnotes showing how it constantly contradicts itself.
Also ask yourself this question, if the Bible is divinely inspired, why is it so full of crap and so hard to read?
See second link for some examples.

It is not reading the Bible that you have to get but recommitting your life to Jesus. Ask His forgiveness and to come into your heart and take over your life. Then you know what, He will be a driving force to do right within you. He is there in your life's door waiting for you to invite Him back. God Bless while doing it.

Open the book to genesis chapter 1 and start there.. If you can get a King James version, most of genesis sounds like poetry as does the psalms and the song of solomon. its really quite beautiful.

Make it a habit that you will read the bible regularly at your opportune time and ensure compliance as must, beyond anything. Do this with firm determination, you will succeed in your attempt. Once habitual, don't deter from it.
