apologies if this has been asked b4. I think england played very well esp. under the circemstances ie WITHOUT beckham, owen and Rooney! and esp. considering they have a crap manager.

ok england lost fair and sqaure and they ARE crap at penalities, but who thinks england played better in the real part of the game, albeit without scoring.

He who plays better is likely to win. But in this case England didn't win. To be honest i think portugal were nothing special at all, given decent leadership and some strikers up front, we could have scored no problems. Although we do need to work on our penalities, shame, becasuse penalty shoot-outs is hardly proper football, its just a mechanism for deciding who wins. So in essence the better team DID NOT win here. I expect the next world cup to be a better result for English football.

Yes, England played very well and the only way to decide the winner was through penaties. And penalties is always a "lottery" anyone could win. Besides, we missed two shots, usually that means the team is out, but Ricardo has the night of his life and we won. Just that.

England played better with ten men than eleven in the team, pity they didn't show this display earlier.Unfortunately Portugal
try all the underhand tricks like diving and winding people up to loose their temper.Rooney although a good player, lost his cool
which was probably part of the opposition's strategy, only to be sent off, due to his old team mate Ronaldo stirring it.England
have some good players but never seem to click at the right time, wether this is the heat or unable to function under pressure
I don't know. After seeing france play with Zidane and their true sportmanship they deserved to win

Portugal played better in my book, England also played well , both sides cancel'ed each other out with their defence, the penalties made the difference - Ricardo was great in goal's for Portugal saving 3 penalties, it's a new record in the world cup history.

England were the better players - playing with only 10 men for the best part of 1.5 hours is a great test of endurance and skill - the Portugese goalie was much better informed on how the players would take the penalties - I have no idea why Robinson wasn't in the same position - he didn't do his homework....

i imagine he's the most selfish participant on the face of the earth. he will not in any respect ever win a international cup for Portugal. He must have had a yellow card for interfering in Rooney organisation. It took 40 years for Portugal to take action a techniques and it is going to likely be yet another 40 years for them to win a international cup.

we where done by the referee, the portugese falling over if the wind got up... everyone slags off sven.. he tried his best.. injuries and overall fitness where a MAJOR factor.... if owen had been ok, and rooney 100% fit. with a better ref..( like the one in the germany/italy game.. -superb ref') then it would have been a better result and maybe sir sven in the future.... the players are responsible for the result.. the manager can ONLY do so much...

england did not play better, they play badly, thet quality they have in there team and they cant do nothing with it, dont start points fingers we have no owen and rooney, so what stevie g can score joe cole crouch lampard, they can all do the job so the fact that you didnt have feckham and owen means nothing and rooney will be lucky if they let him play again after his stunt
