"Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves; and, under a just God, can not long retain it."-Abraham Lincoln

And if so, can you, in good conscience, deny gays the right to marry who they love?

For those who question the context of the quote,
yes it was directed about slavery. However, it doesn't, in the quote, say that it is meant only for slaves. The quote says
"Those who deny freedom to OTHERS"
it doesn't specify anyone or group or minority and thus can be derived for any mistreated person or persons who are denied freedoms and rights.

I believe that everyone in this country should be equal. When I say everyone I mean EVERYONE, regardless of color, religion, sexual orientation...etc. I, as a straight man, think it is beautiful when two people find someone they love and want to start a life together. It doesn't matter to me if it's two men, two women, or a man and woman. As long as they are happy with the person they love, I say it's great. I applaud them for standing up for their rights and fighting for what they believe in. Many of us could learn a lot from them.

Listen up, my friend. A Freedom and a Right, is documented.

Slaves were denied a Freedom that other people had.

Gays or NOT denied a Freedom of documented Rights on the Book. Hello????
Gay marriage has got to be on The Books, as a Right first, and then when your denied that, THEN you have been denied.

It won't make it to the Books. It has to be voted on first pal. As a American voter, I have the RIGHT to vote..NO..

Good Luck. Good Spin.

You might try Bill O'Reilly on Fox News*. He is a NO-SPIN zone also.

I agree with President Lincoln's quote completely. Those who advocate denying freedom to others are not fit to have it for themselves. They fail to treat others with the same dignity and respect that they desire. They fail to see God in everyone.

No, I could not deny gays or anyone else the right to marry who they love nor would I take away any other freedoms or knowingly violate the freedoms of others.

It's a nice quote, but what evidence is there that God is "just"? However, I understand your point and I agree. Nevertheless, the people who oppose gay marriages (or any other rights for oppressed groups) are only interested in maintaining their own civil liberties. Why would they be concerned with leveling the playing field?

Sure, there are people out there that oppose homosexual marriages. However, try and find me a single one that would be negatively affected by homosexual marriages becoming legal.
It's been used before but it's true! Anyone that answers this and "hates" homosexuals, do you have any homosexual friends? No!
Speaking from God's point of view, didn't Jesus his son say: "Do not judge, lest ye be judged?" I see a fair bit of judging happening in refusing to let homosexual people get married.
And there's also "turn the other cheek." Homosexuals aren't hurting anyone else by getting married, so why should they be slapped?

"Those who deny freedom to others, deserve it not for themselves": Yes, I agree.

"...and under a just God, can not long retain it". I'm not sure there is a god, anyway.

As you see, I'm not a believer, and I would strongly support the right for homosexual marriage, though I, as a straight guy, would never marry another man.

Lol.... Yeah... astounding little rant. I dont imagine being gay is a psychological ailment, those who're gay or bi or although, are merely fairly puzzled. Being gay is a decision. appearing upon the urge to "love" yet another of a similar sex is a decision and that variety of temptation should be conquer. I dont imagine that they ought to take delivery of the right to marry. What are we going to do, enable human beings and animals to be wed too? Thats the position issues are headed!! of route the remedy should be unfavorable because absolutely everyone who's in remedy and hating each and every 2d of it, no **** for sure theyre going to pop out extra hateful and bitter. So there you bypass. no one is going to modify in the journey that they dont opt to!!!!! Thats why the analyze are generating the outcomes that they are!! Ever imagine of that? Hell no....

You're not talking about justice. You're talking about fairness. They are not the same thing.
And I think he was talking about freedom for slaves, not the freedom to marry. I'm not saying I disagree with you, I'm just saying that you should probably use quotes in the context they were intended.

Yes and No. But I do wish gays would just shut up if they didn't have to push their orientation in everyone's face like they are owed something most people wouldn't care either way about gay marriage. I don't care if want to badly enough you can go somewhere that it's legal and get married.

alot of b.s. quote to ask your simple question of why cant I marry another queer. simple, your polititions are closed minded.

gays always say how they are no different from straight people.

so dont worry about the marraige license, shack up with one and have a couple on the side, straight or gay we're all the same.

no matter your preference, a peice of paper doesnt make it any more right or wrong
