Try looking at the pound. Or check in your local newspaper. Sometimes there are people in your town that put up bulletin board ads and they have the best micers around.
Good luck in your search and I know the responsibility will be the best for your daughter.

if you know any local farmers, you could try and see if they have any farm cats that are expecting kittens (good micers), or failing that try your local Cats Protection (or similar organisation).

I've got 4 cats at home, 3 are from a cats shelter, and two I got as kittens. For some reason the ones i got from the shelter are better micers than the one i already had from the pet store. A word of caution, some shelters try to rehouse kittens in pairs, so you may end up with 2 kittens.

Go to the animal shelter, take string or something with you, see how all the cats react to the string. The more reaction, the better for catching mice. For the girl make sure the cat dosen't scratch when its tired of playing.
Non-nuetered males are the best at catching mice.

I would really not suggest getting a cat just to take care of mice. Contrary to popular belief mice are not good for cats, in fact they carry many diseases that can actualy kill a cat.

Finding a cat though is pretty easy. Try going to the aspca website. They can either help you find a shelter, or rescue agency in your area.

Contact your nearest RSPCA Centre - look in the phone book for the nearest one - they will have domestic cats, as well as pedigree, and all there animals will have had the 'snip' as well.

They are well worth support. Why not get two kittens/full grown cats at the same, as that way they will be able to keep each company, not fight, and get the mouse problem down faster.

If you want a kitten for a pet I would check out shelters. If you want to control mice, set traps. Mice carry diseases and can be harmful to pets. Also, did you ever see a cat that ate a mouse that ate decon? Not a pretty sight.

Check out www.petfinder.org. It is a compilation of, I would say most if not all, animal shelters. You should be able to find a kitten without a problem these days because of it being the end of "kitten season" (when the mom's are giving birth in mid-spring).

Plus, you give a homeless kitten a home...

Plus, by the time you get them, they will already have at least their first kitten shots as well as be neutered.

why not try a local farm for a feral cat, kitten or contact the cat rescue society in your local area they could help you could adopt an older moggie, or a young kitten some are ex feral cats that have been caught and tamed so they still like the outdoors my grandmother took on an ex feral cat and he killed a lot of vermin in the local fields.

have you tried local farms if you live in the country? Ours always have loads of cats that aren't pedigree, and they come from mice catching cats!
